Week 3 Discussion 1
leadership vs management
Managers in a behavioral health care setting, as with all managers, adhere to some common principles which make them effective in their position (e.g., setting objectives, organizing; motivating and communicating; measuring indicators of operational, organizational, and individual performance; and developing people). In addition, managers also lead which can be somewhat different from managing. There are several theories on leadership and what makes for an effective leader. In a behavioral health care setting, it is important to have a working knowledge of these leadership theories and how to employ various aspects of these theories based on the situation at hand.
For this week’s first Discussion, you will assess the similarities and differences between managing and leading.
