Critical Thinking Exercise — The Researcher

Instructions

Imagine you are a nurse researcher interested in studying the effect of different medications on pain control of fractures in children admitted to the emergency department. You want to compare IV morphine, oral ibuprofen, and oral acetaminophen with codeine.

Write a 1–2 page proposal summarizing the research plan you would use for this study. Include in your proposal:

  • Identify the specific research question you will use. Include a brief summary of the concepts or keywords you will use.
  • Provide information regarding the background of the problem. Why should we care about this research topic?
  • Summarize the type of research you will conduct (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) and why.

Include at least one resource to support your proposal.
