Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of top-down integration with respect to bot-tom-up integration.

1. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of top-down integration with respect to bot-tom-up integration. 2. Consider a system consisting of three tasks: a producer, a consumer, and a Char Buffer , of the type outlined in Consider also a fixed sequence of external stimuli and a fixed size of the buffer. (Say, the buffer has length 3, ant the producer gets four items from the external environment, to be put into the buffer.) Assume that concurrency is simulated on a uniprocessor with the following different scheduling policies: • Policy 1: Every task runs until it is blocked by asking for an unavailable resource. • Policy 2: Every task runs until it reaches a synchronization point. At that point, the producer has higher priority than the consumer. (The __ has the lowest priority, since it depends on the task it has to serve.) • Policy 3: Every task runs until it reaches a synchronization point. At that point, the producer has lower priority than the consumer. Discuss execution flows and the possibility that a failure with respect to the error discussed in Example 6.11 will be detected.
