The company that I choose is Coca- Cola. Coca-Cola in 2008 teamed up with the World Wildlife Fund to improve water efficiency 20 percent by 2012, relative to a 2004 baseline. And the company is working to improve water quality in areas of the world where it does business; for World Water Day 2010 in March, Coca-Cola added $12.7 million to its commitment to the Water and Development Alliance (Wheeland, 2010).
Coca-Cola is known for their sodas, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Fanta, and Minute maid options as well. In 2004, Coca-Cola was using 2.7 liters of water to make 1 liter of their product. They have decreased that number to 1.96 liter to make their product in 2016 (cola-cocacompany.com).
The key driver in improving their water efficiency is reducing or removing water use in their manufacturing processes. Over the years Coca-Cola made significant investments in new technologies and operating procedures that replace or reduce water use in their manufacturing operations. In order to expand on such improvements, Coca- Cola needed to understand where water is used and where they have opportunities for improvement (cola-cocacompany.com).
In 2016, Coca-Cola used about 303.65 billion liters of water to produce approximately 155 billion liters of product (e.g., Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coke Zero) that translated into some 166.5 billion liters of finished product sales to consumers. Sales volume is greater than production volume mainly because sales include the full volume of fountain drinks sold to consumers. We used approximately 148.7 billion liters of water in our manufacturing process to make that 155 billion liters of product in their operations. This is the definition of water efficiency – how much water it takes to make their product (Coca-Cola Company.com).
In July 2013, Coca-Cola publicly committed to more sustainably source their key agricultural ingredients: cane and beet sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, stevia, tea, coffee, oranges, lemons, grapes, apples, mangos, pulp and paper fiber for packaging, palm oil and soy (Coca-ColaCompany.com).
Coca-Cola has remained a household name because they have continued improve their products and add new products. The company is known for giving back to their country and the world. Coca-Cola has continued to be the landmark of how other companies should be. The company continues to make money based on their good product and their love for helping others makes consumers love the company and their products.
