Background
There are a wide variety of tools used by management in support of their roles within operations. Each of these tools has been developed to help guide managers in their roles of planning, controlling, and deciding. Some of these tools are strategic, while others are more performance based. One of the most commonly implemented is known as key performance indicators [KPIs]. KPIs form the basis of the Balanced Scorecard, which is covered in Chapter 11 of your text. The use of KPIs entails identification of specific measurable operating statistics that can be used to track the achievement of goals and business success. Several articles on KPIs are available in the technical resources section of the project module on Canvas.
Your task
KPIs are as useful for governments and nonprofits as they are for traditional business entities. Your task is to develop a set of KPIs that college management can use to measure the performance of the school and assist in decision-making.

Assignment Stages
Your team has been hired by the College Board of Trustees to serve as consultants to the administration. The Board is concerned with how well the college is meeting its goals, but is unsure as to how to determine success. The Board wishes you to present alternative ways of measuring collegiate success through the use of KPIs. Your task is to provide the Board with five complementary KPIs and the rationale behind their use. You will not be performing the actual measurements. See the section
Stage 2.1
As we know from our studies of the balanced scorecard in Chapter 11, we need to determine the value proposition of the school. In this stage you will first identify what the college is attempting to accomplish and for whom. Then you will begin hypothesizing means of determining whether the college is successful in its attempts to serve.
You will need to write a brief essay stating your findings and ideas. First, identify the college’s goals, including details as to the demographics and goals of the service audience. Additionally, propose two questions that you believe are appropriate to ask based on what you have determined the college is seeking to achieve. Each question should fill in the blank of, “Should Bellevue College measure its success by checking if…?”
Example: You might say, “Should Bellevue College measure its success by checking if student grades are improving?”
You will use Canvas to submit a Word document for the assignment. It should be in paragraph form. The questions list should be in bullet-point format. Use footnote citations as appropriate. Note that these questions are not themselves KPIs; rather, they are intended to help guide teams towards identifying appropriate KPIs.
