2. Watch this presentation about how the elements and principles of art are used in photography:

3. Choose two elements of art (based on Chapter 4) and two principles of design (based on Chapter 5). Scroll down to find the lists.
4. Take 4 photos in your camera of topics of your choice – each photo should demonstrate one of the elements or principles you chose. You can also use old photos – as long as you are the photographer. Please avoid controversial material – (if you are not sure – ask me before you post).
5. Post your photos and write above each one which element or principle it demonstrates. Provide a short explanation.
6. Respond to at least one student regarding at least one of their photos – do you agree with their choice and explenation? Disagree? Have something to add? etc.

- Additionally – the View Point/Vantage Point. This principle of design is prominent in many photographs (check Chapter 5 PowerPoint presentation slides 65-94). The vantage point is the position from which the photograph was taken. It is the point of view of the viewer of the photograph. Different vantage points can convey different relationships with the objects depicted in the photograph.
When the vantage point is high the viewer is above the subject – the viewer is more elevated, important, powerful than the subject. It also can convey a more rational, orderly, and detached mood or message. When the vantage point is low the viewer is looking up from beneath, therefore the viewer feels more hubmled by the power of what is above.
When the vantage point is at eye level, especially if the subject is close and large there is more “normal” direct and intimate relationships between the viewer and the subject.

The repetitive shapes of the round human backs are echoed by the larger round shapes of the canopy above them.
