Assignment: The two videos above provide insight on cultural differences and cultural perceptions of Others.As we’ve discussed in class, one’s perception can result in devaluation, subjugation and misrepresentation of others and persons in marginalized groups.

Utilize notes taken on the videos in addition to information you obtain when researching your society/tribe to write a paper on a society/tribe that is different from your society/culture.In your paper, you need to address the following:

• Discuss the following regarding the society/tribe you select:
  • Culture/Traditions
  • Population (size)
  • Complexity of society
  • Economy
  • Primary material products used/exchanged
    • (products that are produced or obtained through trade/commerce)
  • Environment (topography of land, weather, climate, major resource)
  • Primary language
  • Religion(s) practices
• What are some of the major challenges/barriers the citizens/members are encountering in employment, education, transportation, water, environment, and so forth?
• Describe the governmental structure. To what extent are societal members involved, if applicable?
• Has technology effected the progression/growth of this society/tribe?If so, what were the positive/negative outcomes?
• Discuss the cultural barriers/restrictions and/or limitations of the women in your chosen society/tribe in comparison to barriers/challenges viewed in the video watched in class, “Women of the Third World.”
  • How are the women in your selected society/tribe and the video watched in class similar/different as it relates to their position/role in their society/tribe?
• What was the most interesting or unexpected fact about your society/tribe did you discover?
