Week 8 – Host Defenses – Student Homeworks

Outline: In this unit students will learn about the host’s ability to defend itself against infections. The first and second lines of defense possessed by the host are detailed, and the third line of defense is introduced. How the immune system recognizes what is foreign to the human body is also outlined. Students will also learn the specific immunity mechanisms in the human body. We will also investigate the role played by T and B lymphocytes, antibodies, and killer cells. Finally we will discuss the classification of types of immunity and types of T cells is discussed. The process of developing immunity through either natural or artificial means is also covered.
