In week 4, my understanding of information technology has been significantly enhanced. As a mobile application developer intern in a leading IT company, I have come to understand as well as appreciate programming languages, and the manner in which they enable application developers to come up with unique software. During my internship, I was expected to work for three days. The daily routine involved going through codes of different programming languages and counterchecking from the printed copies whether they had been input well in the program before its execution. I was also offered an opportunity to go through such codes in scenarios where programs that were being executed presented an error.
In the field of information technology and computer science, I have realized that there are minimal if any differences between what is learnt in class and what is put into application in the field. The only difference is that at the work place, the focus was more of application rather than theory work.
During the internship, there were other major aspects of professional development that I came across. I remember the day I attended a program launch presentation in the organizationthat exposed me to the innovative application of IT. I realized that while programmers may have brilliant ideas and programs, the value of such programs is highly pegged to the ability of such programmers to communicate to stakeholders how the programs can serve their needs .At the same time, I realized the importance of experiential learning in this field through direct engagement in the development of mobile applications. In particular, I was highly motivated during the internship by an article I read that focused on the importance of experiential learning in computer science, increasing my attention on my learning process while working in the organization.
