Gun control is the government’s effort to limit the possession of weapons among the citizens. When citizens carry guns for hunting and sporting activities, it is understandable. Nevertheless, carrying handguns all over should be prohibited because of safety reasons. In many instances, the guns are used to solely kill people thus increasing the rates of murder in the country. Besides, children are quickly using the guns to kill other kids in institutions and at home.
The first reason for controlling gun ownership is because most people use the guns for protection making guns a weapon to rapidly kill other people. Many people, some younger than 19 years possess guns or take their parents guns and use it for murder or suicide. The more easily people can get guns makes homicide and suicide levels in the country increase since people have weapons they use to accomplish the task. The government of the United States should not have laws that favor murdering of human beings. The legislation in a government should protect citizens against all kinds of harm (Freeley & Steinberg, 2013). When the government came up with fastening seatbelt as a law in the country, many lives have been saved during vehicle accidents. The laws have saved many lives. The government should also incorporate such kinds of legislation in all aspects especially in restricting gun ownership for ordinary citizens. Controlling gun ownership does not necessarily mean taking away guns completely, but rather coming up with reforms that will reduce people possessing guns. Evidently, when the second amendment was written in 2008, there were no improved arms as we now see them. The general public needs to feel safe since the government cares for their safety.
The second reason for controlling gun ownership is to reduce homicide and robbery rates in the United States. Compared to Canada, where there are strict laws against gun ownership, the United States reports high levels of robbery and homicide. The recent reports indicate that the united States report three times higher murder cases caused by the handgun than Canada (Lott, 2015). The reports show that the county is not safe and people are using the guns for other reasons than the ones intended. Robbers would break into a house and use the short guns to murder or threaten the owner. Citizens in the country are purchasing assault weapons to defend their homes and property. The same assaults weapons can be stolen and used for mass shooting. According to the second amendment in the American constitution, American citizens have a right to defend and fight for themselves (Lott, 2015). But the act has made it possible for people to access guns quickly which they use for killing people once they feel endangered. Humanity is sacred, and people should not easily kill others. Reports show that criminal activities in the country are going up since people can easily obtain firearms. Homicide rates are becoming increasingly popular due to the availability of short guns. With strict laws on gun ownership, homicide cases will go down since people will not access weapons quickly.
The third reason for tight controlling gun ownership is because a lot of people suffer from mental health illnesses. The mental disorders have made people becoming psychotic (Strasser & Todd, 2012). The people with intellectual disabilities become dangerous when in gun possession because they might start mass shooting without knowing what they are doing. The government has a horrible regulation when it comes to checking the background of the person buying a gun. The gun sale has made it easier for people to get guns without necessarily going through a test to determine whether they are mentally stable. It means that they cannot tell who is fit to have a gun and who poses the danger to the public (Strasser & Todd, 2012). The government should come up with laws that include an extensive background check on citizens who wish to own guns and also safety training for the people. Therefore, with strict laws on gun ownership, many murder cases, accidental deaths, and homicides rates will reduce since the mentally disabled persons will not be able to possess guns which otherwise poses the danger to the general public.

In conclusion, gun ownership should be tightly controlled to restore safety in the United States and also reduce homicide, criminal activities, and suicide rates. Controlling gun ownership doesn’t necessarily mean taking away guns from people which are allowed in the second amendment of the constitution, but rather ensuring that there are strict laws on who owns a gun. Also. The legislation will run a strict background on people who intend to own gun thus ruling out mentally unstable individuals. In turn, the strict rules will make citizens feel safer in their country because there will be no careless use of the guns in public or private sectors.
